This how
Discover Spanish World started:

  • Growing up in La Mancha, like the legendary Don Quijote, I faced early challenges with speech, like being a late speaker and later some sounds like the famous Spanish rolling 'R'. Thanks to speech therapy, I overcame these hurdles, which deepened my empathy for language learners.

  • At around 8, compulsory English classes began, and despite my diligence, I found them challenging.

I didn't understand anything that was going on in class. I felt very frustrated and helpless. When the teacher asked me to read or say something... I started sweating, shaking and my words wouldn't come out! The teacher's discouraging words echoed in my ears, telling me that I would never grasp English.

My mother enrolled me in private classes, there was a lot of theory and little practice. I managed to pass the English class and I went on to high school, but I still didn't enjoy English at all.

In high school I found myself in the same situation but with the French language. The question whether I was truly capable of mastering languages resurfaced.

Óscar: He turned my displeasure for languages into love.

  • Then came Óscar, my high school English teacher, whose passion and innovative methods transformed my view of language learning.

English, once a source of frustration, became a source of fascination. Óscar breathed life into the textbooks, making me realize the practicality and beauty of mastering a foreign language. By that time, I had even secured a scholarship to study English in Edinburgh.

As you can see, Óscar made me fall in love so much with languages that I ended up studying English Philology in university.

  • During my Erasmus year in Dublin, I truly discovered the potential of immersing oneself in language and culture.

The initial struggles with pronunciation and adaptation eventually gave way to a love for exploring cultures through language.

Actually, I stayed there 2 more years, working in a Dublin hostel and also teaching some Spanish, I was surrounded by people of diverse nationalities.

  • Returning to Spain, I taught English in various settings but yearned for more adventure.
I ended up working on cruise ships, travelling, surrounded by a multitude of languages and cultures.

Onboard, I started learning Italian and French. The ship life is very exciting, but I missed teaching. So I reinvented myself again to mix my great passions: travelling, exploring cultures and teaching, but this time of my mother tongue, Spanish!
